Modern Rock 106.3 WHTG-FM relaunches as “G106.3”

One of the few remnants of independent commercial radio, Modern Rocker “FM 106.3” was sold to Press Communications in 2000. When the new ownership group took over at the stroke of midnight on November 14, 2000 the Alternative format was retained, but significantly retooled. A more adult, female approach was taken with an entirely new airstaff, imaging, and signal enhancements.

  1. What was the song ending as this aircheck began?

    • I believe it was Jeff Buckley’s “Hallelujah”

      • “Last Goodbye” by Jeff Buckley. It was also the last song on 96.3 WMAD Madison before they switched to Country.

        • It was also used by WHFS before they went Spanish, WRXP before they flipped to WFAN and Classic Rock WARW 94.7 in DC before it went Fresh. CBS used it as the farewell song for a lot of alternative stations.

  2. The choice of last and first song kind of tells you all you need to know about why FM 106.3 is long remembered and G 106.3 mostly forgotten… And so it goes.
